Kid Kibalchish is a hero of a once popular story by Arkadiy Gaidar, who as a youngster fought within the revolutionary ranks in the 10s and 20s, then wrote a number of stories, and then died in the WWII. The story of Kibalchish (written in the form of a myth, a fable) tells about a young kid who, after the death of his father and brother, brought together a band of his friends to fight against the capitalist intervention, and held the entire frontline by sheer bravery, until he was betrayed, captured and killed by the enemy. Of course, none of this ever happened, nor were there any events that corresponded with this tale, but here was this image of a boy who didn't just have faith in the Red Army and the cause - HE alone was that army. In short, he is War. A Soviet Susano, if you'd like. And, gods, I plan to revive the brat. He does not deserve oblivion. |
